The American Muscle

Posted by

In the 1960s there had been a class of autos introduced to the world known as muscle autos. The majority of these cars boasted a V8 engine which was geared for speed. As these autos were produced the makers were in stiff competition with one another.

As each manufacturer attempted to outdo the other, we were led into an age of some of the speediest vehicles of our time. With no thought to gas and fuel potency, US citizens appeared to be having the time of their lives. Their automobiles were fast and attention-grabbing, both on the road and on the race track.

Racing stripes and flashy decals made a statement about both the automobile and the driver. It looked the flashier the vehicle the more fascinating. At a point when the posh car was the king of the road for the married set, the more youthful crowd wanted something smaller, quicker, and sportier. The Shelby Mustang and the 440 Roadrunner are a couple of the fast automobiles which were built to satisfy the need for high-performance and speed. Camaros, Chargers, GTOs, and Firebirds all tried to pack as much punch under the hood as was possible. Corvettes offered speed and graceful style, but they also had a high ticket.

Almost all of the other hi-performance vehicles offered a cost that was cheap to the average working class folk. In the 1960s and 70s automobile makers were riding high on a wave of speed and performance. Then we entered an age where we were told gas was in short supply and we were destroying the ozone with our lavish automobile emissions.

We reluctantly let go of our fast and sporty autos and took to the streets with a V6 and even a V4. Gas mileage and less expensive insurance costs forced the fast vehicles onto the race track and off the roadways. The need for speed will be with us always. We intend to potentially never again see a point when speed and high performance engines are sold for the each day street automobile but we will be able to get a glance of these vehicles at the raceway or at vintage automobile shows. The baby boomers were around to see these vehicles at their inception and they carry a torch for them today. Many will spend a tasty sum to revive one of these original fast vehicles back to their former grace.
